A group of Explorer scouts from
Blandford have been selected to represent North Dorset at the next World
Jamboree in 2007. The jamboree will mark 100 years of Scouting and as it all
began in this country, it seems more than appropriate to hold the centenary
celebrations in this country.
To allow the 4 selected scouts to
attend the Jamboree, they must raise 1000 pounds each. 4000 pounds may seem a
lot of money to go to Essex for a couple of weeks, but a large chunk of the
money will go towards funding overseas scouts from less well off countries - in
the true spirit of scouting, by helping other people. |

Scouting started nearly a century ago,
and today there are 28 million Scouts worldwide, in 216 countries and
territories.
In 2007, Scouting celebrates its
Centenary, and thousands of activities by millions of Scouts will help to
change the world for good.

The picture below shows Lizzy, Jenny,
Jade, Thomas, Simon and Luke, all from Blandford Explorer Scouts, going out for
a meal to celebrate Lizzys birthday. Everyone in the photo, apart from
Jade and Simon, will be going to the Jamboree.

The World Scout Jamboree will be a
gathering of Scouts from around the world for 12 days from 27 July to 8 August
2007.
The theme of the 21st World Scout
Jamboree in 2007 is One World One Promise" which captures
the aspirations and hopes of young people for the future.
The World Scout Jamboree 2007 will
take place on over a thousand acres (400 hectares) of rolling English
countryside, at Hylands Park, Chelmsford (in Essex).
